Stephen Covey made the statement ” if you want small changes work on your behavior. If you want quantum leap changes work on your paradigms”
This is a great statement from a great mind and great nations are built by great minds.
Quantum-leap change according to the Merriam-Webster’s dictionary refers to a sudden large change, development, or improvement.
Singapore since independence in 1965 has gone from being rated a poor under-developed nation to being among the world’s richest and developed countries a with superb national infrastructure and organization. This has all been the product of great minds at the helm of affairs.
Romans 12.2 says ” And do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God”
Yes, the bible teaches that outward transformation in our lives is a product of changing our mindsets or paradigms.
The word ”transform” used here in the bible is metamorphosis, which is the series of changes a butterfly undergoes from being an egg, larva, pupa and then finally a full-grown beautiful butterfly.
Talk about quantum changes! those are quantum changes!
Statecraft is not just about managing the affairs of a state but should be about building great nations as well.
The biblical metaphor for the nation is a house or a building. This implies that the building of a great nation like building a great and magnificent building should begin with a plan or model. That plan or model is the paradigm or mindset of the nation builders or the those at the helm of the nation’s affairs.
When nation-builders or those at the helm of governance begin with the right paradigm or plan, successful and great nations are built. When they set out with a wrong plan, paradigm or mindset, countries fail. It is that simple.
The problem with Believers or Christians is that they have not been paying attention to what the word of God has to say about the blueprint or design for building a country that works for all those in it.
Believe it or not God loves all humankind so much that He has made provisions for this. It is the will of God for nations to be at peace.
Civil government is God’s idea and He designed it to work. If it is not working, then the problem is that we are not following the plan.
The command Jesus Christ gave to believers is ” make disciples of the nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you…”(Matthew 2818-20)
‘All things’ means everything Jesus has said about everything which includes the state and civil government.
If you have been travelling a particular road for twenty years and you are not arriving, common sense should make you realize that you are travelling the wrong road.
In Nigeria and much of Africa, after over 50 years of trying to change the behavior of the political class and getting little or no result we ought to have concluded by now that we are travelling the wrong road.
We need to change our paradigm or mindset about the state and civil governance in order to see quantum leap changes in our nation and the rest of Africa.
We need a country that is built on effective systems that flow from a practical and workable model of governance. We can then go about our lives without having messianic expectations from politicians.
Albert Einstein said ” the significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were when we created them”
We need to rise to a new level of thinking in order to see solutions to the problems that have bedeviled us as a country for over 50 years of national independence.
